Owen Cooper & Katie Richards Eventing

Owen Cooper

From West Wales, After school set up his own yard at home breaking and schooling horses. He then decided that to pursue a career in eventing he would have to base himself in a professional yard so moved to Matt and Marie Ryan in Abergavenny, Wales.

Having spent four years as back up rider to triple olympic gold medallist Matt Ryan, Owen decided it was finally time to start his own business with partner Katie Richards, currently they have a new yard in Wiggington, Chipping Norton home to International dressage riders Gareth and Rebecca Hughes.   At the end of last season Owen achieved some great results. Aramis was placed first and fourth in his last few runs at novice level narrowly missed a win at Tweseldown. He has been well placed this year coming 11th in his first Intermediate at Brigstock and 1st in the Welsh Championships at Glanusk. Burra Sahib was well placed last year at Intermediate level finishing fourth at Aldon International, the last event of the season. He has also done well at two star level this year. Both Katie and Owen are always looking for more event horses to compete.

Katie Richards

Katie spent 16 months at Matt Ryans. During this time she produced a young mare owned by Wendy Mc Kay called Supa Solitaire up to novice level winning at Intro and Pre Novice and being placed fourth in her first novice. She is a very exciting prospect and will be aimed at a CCI* this season. At Matts, Katie was very involved with helping produce the young horses as well as schooling and jumping his advanced horses. Katie has been a member of the Bicester and Warden Hill pony club (Oxfordshire) and competed at several national championships having several placings on three different horses in all disciplines. Katie has a couple of exciting younger horses to event this year too.
